The recent FIG Congress 2010 - "Facing the Challenges – Building the Capacity" that was held in Sydney, Australia, from 11-16 April 2010 ended with a double ‘big-bang’ success for Malaysia on two counts!

First, PEJUTA’s fervent bid to host the FIG Congress 2014 was granted by the FIG General Assembly on 16 April 2010 where Kuala Lumpur won over Istanbul, Turkey amidst an atmosphere of tensed and tight competition to secure the honour to host this prestigious international event. Credit also goes to the support given by the Director General of Survey and Mapping, Dato’ Prof Dr Abdul Kadir Taib who was involved in the joint presentation on Malaysia’s offer as well as the Government agencies, Regulatory Authorities, Academia and Industry listed in the bid presentation [below].
The other ‘feather in the cap’ for the Malaysian Surveying and Mapping Industry was the FIG General Assembly’s election of Mr Teo Chee Hai as the new FIG President for the period 2011-2014. Mr Teo won over worthy candidates, Mr Matt Higgins from Australia and Mr Iain Greenway from the United Kingdom, to takeover the reins from Mr Stig Enemark from Denmark.

This successful bid for the FIG Congress 2014 [the first congress to be held in Asia], represents both a major milestone and proud moment for PEJUTA and all members represented by PEJUTA, being FIG’s sole member association from Malaysia. Inevitably, this event will translate into an unparalleled opportunity for PEJUTA to uplift the image of the Malaysian Surveying and Mapping Industry as the event is set to generate a huge exposure for the Industry in addition to boosting Malaysia’s tourism industry in 2014.

The FIG Congress 2014 [9-16 May 2014], where the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre has been proposed as the venue, is expected to mirror or even exceed the attendance of the 2,200 participants from 100 countries which Sydney, Australia has recently attracted through the FIG Congress 2010. Changing the 'Game'

For some time now, PEJUTA has been seeking to maintain its drive and aspirations for the Licensed Land Surveying profession by way of laying out long-term objectives to carry out its Mission and achieve its Vision for the future.

A Strategic Plan has been developed through a timely, value-driven process whilst being shaped by fundamental principles of ethics, code of conduct and professionalism.

Armed with a clear understanding of its mission, a better appreciation of the current and future scenarios of the Surveying and Mapping industry, and an awareness of the challenges before it, PEJUTA incorporated the key elements of its organizational priorities, strategic issues, long-term objectives and a comprehensive planning horizon into a Strategic Plan:
